Questions and answers
Blitzball FAQ
The questions players ask most about Blitzball, answered. If you are brand new, the full guide walks through how to play from the first airblast.
Getting started
- Is Blitzball free to play?
- Yes. Blitzball is completely free to play in your browser. There is nothing to buy to play, and nothing to download or install.
- Do I need an account to play?
- No. You can jump in as a guest in seconds. Creating an account is optional, and it lets you save your stats, climb the leaderboards, earn and keep in-game credits, and unlock cosmetics across sessions.
- What do I need to run it?
- Any modern browser with WebGL support, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari, on either desktop or mobile. There is no app to install. If the game will not start, your browser or device may have WebGL disabled.
- Can I play on my phone?
- Yes. Blitzball has full on-screen touch controls: a movement stick, drag-to-aim, and a deflect button, plus jump and ability buttons. You can add it to your home screen to play fullscreen.
How it plays
- What is the goal of the game?
- A single homing rocket hunts players around the arena. When it comes for you, airblast it to deflect it back at someone else. One hit takes you out, and the last player or team standing wins the round.
- What is the airblast?
- It is the action that knocks the rocket away. The airblast only affects the rocket inside a small box right in front of you, so timing is everything: wait until the rocket is on top of you, then deflect.
- How do I aim where the rocket goes?
- The direction you are looking at the moment of the deflect sets the rocket's new heading. Drag your aim through the deflect for a controlled return, or flick it for a fast, surprising redirect.
- Why does the rocket get faster?
- Clean deflects build the rocket's speed, and long rallies escalate fast. The longer a rally runs, the faster and more dangerous the rocket gets, which is what makes them tense. The tips page covers how to survive a high-speed rally.
- How do I get better?
- Drill the timing in practice against bots, resist the urge to deflect early, and start aiming your returns at opponents who are out of position. Reading the rocket and aiming the return are the whole skill of the game.
Modes, accounts, and stats
- Is there online multiplayer?
- Yes. You can play online team arenas and KOTH, a one-versus-one climbing ladder, or host a private lobby for up to sixteen friends with a share link. Players can also vote to switch an online match to free-for-all. See the game modes page for the full list.
- What is the difference between Classic and Modern?
- Classic is pure timing and aim with a predictable rocket and no abilities. Modern adds a loadout: a primary deflect style and a secondary ability such as a jetpack, dash, or bunt, with a double jump built in. Online matches currently run the Modern class, and Classic is available in practice.
- How do leaderboards work?
- There is an all-time leaderboard for overall results and a separate board for the fastest rallies, with daily, weekly, and monthly windows. Only signed-in online play counts toward the boards; guest and practice play do not.
- Can I play with friends privately?
- Yes. Host a private lobby and share the link. Anyone who clicks it drops straight into your match. Private lobbies are unranked.
