Ways to play
Blitzball runs the same rocket dodgeball core across solo practice, online play, and private lobbies, with rocket classes that change how a match feels. Here is every mode and what it is for.
Solo practice is the place to learn. You face bots across five difficulty tiers, from Easy up to Hell, so you can dial the pressure to match where you are. Easy bots give you slow, readable rockets to drill the airblast timing. Hell bots deflect with a precision that will test players who already know the game. Practice runs entirely on your device, needs no account, and is the fastest way to build the muscle memory the online arenas demand. It does not affect leaderboards or earn credits, so you are free to experiment.
Online play drops you into live arenas against other people, running the Modern rocket class. Matches fill automatically, and if a room is short on players, beatable bots fill the empty slots so you're never waiting alone. Sign in to record your stats and climb the global leaderboards: an all-time board for overall results and a separate board for the fastest rallies. Guests can play online too; signing in is what makes your results count.
KOTH is a one-versus-one ladder that runs as its own set of online arenas. Beat your opponent and you climb to the next stage against a fresh challenger. It is the most focused, highest-pressure way to play: just you, one rival, and the rocket.
Free-for-all drops the teams. The rocket is neutral and anyone can deflect it at anyone. In an online match, players can vote to switch to free-for-all once at least two people are in the room, and it is always available in practice. It's the most chaotic way to play, with the rocket changing hands constantly and alliances lasting exactly as long as they are convenient.
Want to play with friends and no strangers? Host a private lobby and invite up to sixteen people with a single share link. Send the link, they click it, and they drop straight into your match. Private lobbies are unranked, so they are perfect for messing around, running custom matches, or learning together without leaderboards on the line. Proximity voice and chat keep everyone connected during the match.
The rocket class sets the physics and the kit of a match. Online matchmaking currently runs the Modern class; Classic is available in practice.
Classic is pure dodgeball. The rocket follows a clean, predictable path and the whole game is timing and aim. No loadouts, no abilities, no clutter, just you reading the rocket and deflecting it. It is the purest expression of the core loop and a great place to learn what a clean deflect feels like.
Modern adds a layer of movement and options on top of the core. You bring a loadout: a primary deflect style (Push, Spin, Punch, or Parry) and a secondary ability. The double jump is built into Modern, and a clean deflect refunds it, so good play keeps you airborne. The secondary slot holds one ability from a deep list, including a jetpack, a dash, a teleport, a bunt, a speed boost, and low-gravity boots, plus passive perks such as stronger air control or extra health. Where Classic comes down to pure timing, Modern also rewards using movement and abilities to set up a better deflect angle. Your loadout locks in at the start of a round, so choose before you spawn.
